Satchels and Hobo Bags

Satchels and hobo bags are quite on trend for 2011. They are different from the rather big and bulky designer bags that we saw in 2009 or 2010, these are much more compact, less roomy and much more dainty than the large ‘bucket style' bags which weighed a lot and seemed to be permanently full, although we could never find anything when we needed it. They were just too big to be really feminine or delicate and at times we don't want something too practical, we want something graceful and very elegant.

So the satchels and hobo bags are a little bit of a cross between the tiny Clutch Bags that are quite in vogue currently and these large style bucket bags. They allow you to carry more than just a lipstick or a few dollars; but they aren't so big that you have to strain to carry them around!

Both these kinds of bags have a hint of very modern and stylish bohemian chic about them. It is as if they are bohemian chic brought right up to date. They don't look too vintage and they aren't too small to be really impractical; instead they offer a real chance to be just that little bit different.

This individuality is important and it is reflected in all the major designers, with some stunning Stella McCartney bags as well as Alexander Wag and Jason Wu, all showing real originality and individuality with bags that are both practical and stylish.

In particular the satchel bags are definitely about satchels that are incredibly smart; this is not about taking a preppy look and updating it, this is about a bag that is right at home in some of the smartest locations in the world, not just the USA. The accent is very much on the idea of being stylish, practical and bringing style influences from all over the world together to create a very unique and modern look.

To a large extent this is also true for the hobo bags. These are stylish beyond compare, a real sense of 21st Century chic mixed with a retrospective nod at times gone past. But these hobo bags are almost incomparable when it comes to style; they are really style icons.

Interestingly although both these types of bags sound as if they are targeted at younger women, in fact they will look beautiful and elegant on any woman of any age. This is the true beauty of a really classic bag; it is not one that will look either too young or too old on a woman. It will simply look like a really expensive bag that simply oozes style and grace and speaks volumes about who much elegance and class that woman really has. So don't assume that they are for the under 25's: any woman with style can carry off one of these bags and look terrific and show that excellent taste runs deep through all her veins!
